Sh40m to be given to women groups

The office of the Kericho Woman Representative has Sh40 million at its disposal for distribution to women groups, co-operatives and for bursaries.
Speaking in Chemosot Center of Excellence, the county MP Florence Bore urged those in groups and also individuals to apply for the money.
“I am happy to announce at this great forum that my office in Kericho has some funds amounting to Sh40 million which is available to women groups, co operatives and also individuals who apply for bursaries. Apply now,” she said.
The function which was hosted by Kericho Governor Prof. Paul Chepkwony dubbed the Governor’s Roundtable also hosted women from Nyamira County who were led by their Senator Okong’o Omogeni and from Nakuru County led by Senator Liza Chelule.
In his speech, Prof. Chepkwony said his Government had taken steps to make sure women in the county were empowered through employment and through awarding of contracts, among other initiatives.
“Women play a big role in economic development and as the Chairman of the Gender Committee in the Council of Governors, I will continue to take all steps to ensure that they are involved in the decision-making and have access to economic opportunities,” he said. During the function various Saccos, co-operatives, women groups showcased their products; they included Kipkelion Coffee Mills, Ainamoi Business Group, Highland Sacco among others.
The Nyamira senator told women to either form new groups or join those which have already been formed in order to benefit from funds from the Government.
