Former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for EAC, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (Asals) and Regional Development Peninah Malonza has donated two hundred and thirty 2,000 and 500-litre water tanks to 72 women groups in Kitui county.
The groups, under the umbrella body – Kitui County Union for Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (KICUSA) Limited – received the water tanks worth Ksh6 million during the event held at Kauwi Primary School in Kitui West sub-county.
KICUSA Chairlady, Gladys Kakwasi, expressed gratitude to Malonza for the donations.
She said the tanks will go a long way in enhancing the financial standing of the 15,000 members in the groups.
Kakwasi disclosed that the union was started in 2014 when the then county Woman Representative Nyiva Mwendwa donated water tanks to them through the NGAAF (National Government Affirmative Action Fund).
Malonza noted that the donation was only the first phase and that the second round was on the way.
“What we want is women’s living standards to be transformed. I urge more women to join cooperative societies in large numbers and enjoy the benefits,” she said.
She lauded Kakwasi for her excellent leadership in ensuring the society maintains top performance.
The occasion was also addressed by nominated Senator Beth Kalunda, KICUSA Supervisory Committee Secretary Pauline Syovata Musyoka, We the Trees Coordinator Francis Kavisu and former Mutitu ward MCA Annastacia Mwathi Mutunga among other dignitaries.
