78 co-operatives registered

Forty nine co-operative societies in Kwale County have so far been registered by the State Department of Co-operatives Development since devolution started in 2013.
Kwale County Co-operative Commissioner, Ms. Levina Lenjo said that all saccos in the county must register with State Department of Co-operative Development first before starting any business transactions.
She also revealed that the World Bank had spent Sh1.5 million to construct a cooling machine for Wavuvi Sacco at Vanga area, in Lunga Lunga Sub County in Kwale County.
“I urged well-wishers and other stakeholders to emulate the World Bank to enable saccos in the county achieve tremendous growth”, she said.
Meanwhile, three new Savings and Credit Co-operatives (Saccos) have been registered by the State Department of Co-operative Development in Tana River County.
The county’s Co-operative Commissioner, Mr. Athman Harbae said the three newly registered Saccos in the county would boost the economic well being of members.
The three saccos are Galili Boda Boda Sacco, Tana River County Youth Bunge and Tokafa Sacco.
And in Kilifi County, 26 Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (Saccos) have been registered.
According to Kilifi County Cooperative Commissioner, Ms. Mary Mukare, the 26 new Saccos have been registered this year by the State Department of Cooperative Development.
She clarified that out of the newly registered Saccos in the region, 13 are Huduma Saccos meant for National Youth Service (NYS) cohorts, 7 Boda boda Saccos, while six are women Saccos.
