Co-operators have slammed the high taxes levied on societies by the National Government.
Led by the chairman of Simba Chai Savings Co-operative Society, Engineer Joseph Mitei (pictured), the cooperators complained of the ever increasing National Government taxes that are levied on societies.
“We want people who are elected into various political offices to be ready to come up with rules and regulations that will reduce taxation on the Co-operative societies,” he said.
Speaking during the 2017 Ushirika Day celebrations at the Kericho Primary School, Eng. Mitei who is also the Director of Unilever Tea Company called on the government to waive loans accrued by coffee, sugar and tea farmers especially poor farmers adding, “the biggest challenges faced currently is the issue of much loans brought forward.”
He also challenged Sacco managers to exercise good governance in the running of their institutions, saying corruption was the major ailment facing many saving societies.
