The Cooperative University of Kenya (CUK) has announced a virtual postgraduate symposium organized by the School of Computing and Mathematics that will be held on Friday, November 10.
The inaugural postgraduate symposium targets all postgraduate students at the university, those from other universities and any other interested participants.
The varsity Director of Academic Quality Assurance Prof. John Kihoro will speak on how to prepare for the data collection process in Social Sciences.
Dr. Shem Mbandu, Dean at the School of Computing and Mathematics, will deal with how to prepare for the data collection process in Pure and Applied Sciences.
“We are pleased to announce our first annual Math and Computer Science symposium on two topics; How to prepare for the data collection process in the Pure and Applied Sciences and the data collection process in the Social Sciences,” a post from the institution’s social media pages read.
The University has been working to address the need for the process of preparing to collect data in the two areas.
The field of Pure Sciences deals primarily with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, while Applied Sciences refer to subjects that deal with human behaviour such as sociology, psychology and anthropology.
The scientific method applied to the Social Sciences entails a variety of research approaches, tools and techniques for collecting and analyzing qualitative or quantitative data.
On the other hand, Social Science research involves the study of human behavior, relationships and interactions within society. It is a broad field that encompasses various disciplines such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, political science, and economics.
