The County Government plans to upgrade self-help groups to Co-operative societies to help members generate more income.
Chief Officer for Co-operatives, Sebastian Mwangangi said the county is working with over 98 societies among self-help groups to improve the living standards of area residents.
“We will train the groups and facilitate them to see that they register as Saccos,”he told the media in Chuka Town recently.
“We promoted Mugatu Poultry Farmers Group in Tharaka South some few days ago to a Co-operative society and also launched a Gama Bodaboda Sacco. This will help members save and earn more,” he said.
Speaking at a recent event, the County’s CEC for Co-operatives, Tabitha Mbung’u, assured members of various Saccos that her department is ready to work with them since the Co-operative movement is among the top priorities of the County overnment.
“We are ready to offer full support to the societies. I humbly ask for your support too for us to get to higher levels,” the CEC said.
