Embrace a saving culture, teachers told

By Erick Nyayiera

Teachers have been urged to embrace the saving culture and join Saccos so that they are able to reap profits from loans through initiating profitable projects.
Kuppet Vice Chairman Julius Korir and Siaya County Director of Teachers Service Commission Samwel Marigat said that majority of teachers have not embraced the saving culture and called on them to start saving and investing in projects that will help them in future.
Korir and Marigat said the culture of saving is the only sure way for teachers to succeed.
Speaking during Siaya Branch Kuppet 7th Assembly held at Kitu Moto hall in Siaya town, they challenged members to invest with the Saccos including Siaya’s Taraji Sacco so that they may be able to grow both economically and socially.
The leaders were accompanied by Kuppet Chairman Omboko Milemba who hailed teacher’s saccos.
Speaking separately, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to revive the co-operative movement arguing that it’s the only initiative that will boost the county’s economy.
He said that through co-operatives, residents will benefit from a variety of investment opportunities offered by the County Government.
“It is only through co-operative that we can achieve our development goals like it has happened in the past. My government will do everything possible to make sure that Siaya leads in cooperative movement in this region,” Rasanga said.
