The European Union (EU) has donated solar driers worth Ksh1 million to Mali Shambani Community Based Organization (CBO) in Malanga, Malindi sub-county to enable effective and efficient operations.
Speaking to Sacco Review at the cassava processing flour plant recently, the CBO Coordinator Phillip Ndurya revealed that the EU also donated three water storage tanks – two with a capacity of 10,000 litres, and one with 5,000 litres – to ensure adequate water supply.
He added that EU in collaboration with Self Help Africa, Ustadi Foundation and Kilifi county government also donated a Tuk Tuk to assist in transporting cassava from farmers to the processing plant.
Ndurya disclosed that the CBO has two and half acres under the cassava crop, and the flour they produce has ready market across the country in major cities including Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu among other towns.
He urged farmers from the county to sell their cassava at the plant, guaranteeing competitive prices and financial support.
