Fortune Sacco goes third as Shabana flatter to deceit

Tittle hopeful Fortune Sacco FC beats Shabana FC 1-0 at the Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday in a game where the national Super League giant Shabana team failed to convert a myriad of opportunities created.

Shabana skipper Fred Nyakundi “Malouda” is concerned his team’s promotion dreams may fizzle out if they can’t find a solution to their striking woes.

Nyakundi was isolated throughout the game as he could not find back up from his teammates and many of the second-balls he created fell on Fortune Sacco’s defenders who had an easy job making clearances.

He did not mince his words when he reported on his team’s performances.

“Everyone was lacking greatly and we can’t blame anyone for our failures today.

“We have to correct our mistakes in training ahead of our next game against Talanta. All I can say about our attacking is that we need everyone to give more, especially in the final third.”

Team manager Elijah Sani confirmed the team will make recruitments this week to beef up their attacking third in a bid to turn a corner from their shortcomings.

“This is the kind of game everyone wishes to forget about quickly because of the way we played. We were sluggish right from the start and we could not sustain our attacks.

“We will try to make signings that can help us become competitive again.”

Fortune Sacco player-coach Godwin Sylvester Irungu says Sunday’s win will help his charges believe they can finish among the best three teams come the end of the season.

“I was impressed by the way we reacted and maintained our discipline throughout the game. Our target is to finish among the best three teams to advance to the top-tier league.

“We want to win our next game so that we can move further up on the log,” he concluded.

Their win over the weekend propelled them into third on the log with two games at hand.
