Artisanal miners from Rosterman area have a reason to smile after Kakamega Central Miners Sacco was launched recently.

The development is in line with the directive by the State Department for Mining that all artisanal mining activities be carried out through Saccos only.

County Artisanal Mining Committee (AMC) Chairperson Chairperson Patrick Ligami said that the Sacco has already registered 200 youth from the area.

He noted that for a long time, artisanal miners had been unfairly remunerated, and at risk from accidents and deaths because of inadequate health and safety measures, lack of proper equipment and poor management.

Also at the launch was Gold mining Investor Ahmed Saleh who lauded the government for pledging to support the Miners’ Sacco to add to support from other financial institutions which are now ready to support them.

Saleh said that the AMC has put in place a resilience team with the Inspector of Mines to minimize and ensure safety.
