Install a cooling plant for preservation, horticulture farmers demand

Horticultural farmers in Nyandarua County have urged the national government to install cooling plants in all sub counties for the preservation of their products before they are transported to major cities like Nairobi and Nakuru.

Speaking in Olkalou, the farmers said as a result of the increase in the price of petroleum products, at times they can’t transport their produce hence a cooling plant will be of great help.

Stabley Kamau, one of the farmers urged the government to intervene immediately to rescue the situation.

He also urged the government to open up international markets to enable them sell their products and get more profits.

“The local market is full of brokers who earn where they didn’t sow at the expense of the farmers.” He said.
