Kakamega residents urged to form co-operatives

Residents of Kakamega County have been urged to form more cooperative societies to their livelihood activities.

Speaking during the launch of Machesi Cooperative Society in Mugai /Shirugu ward, cooperative officer, William Muchiti, said cooperative societies was the only way forward for the residents to be able to sustain development in the area.

He noted that Central and Rift Valley regions had developed due to cooperatives that allow residents to access funds and other benefits from government and other organizations.

“I’m a cooperative officer based in Kisii and I have seen these areas grow rich and stable in terms finances and food security as they have formed groups to access loans for their development,” he said.

Kakamega North Sub-County, his home area, he noted has remained behind economically for the lack of a vibrant cooperative society that can empower residents.
