Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General, Wilson Sossion has called upon teachers to support Saccos as they have a huge impact on their economic stability.
He was speaking in Kiambu town during the annual general meeting of KNUT Kiambu East branch, where he told the teachers to be loyal to their Saccos.
He was reacting to the current state of Metropolitan National Sacco that was in the verge of going down after it recorded losses due to unpaid loans.
Nairobi County KNUT Executive Secretary, Macharia Mugwe said that teachers were worried of their money at the Sacco.
Sossion said that it was the mandate of KNUT to supervise teachers Sacco so that they know what was happening at the Sacco and making sure they deliver.
Metropolitan National supervisory committee chairman, Joseph Gachunga assured members that the Sacco has taken necessary recovery steps saying that they faced financial difficulties caused by non-performing loans amounting to Sh 1.2 billion.
Supervisory committee Vice Chairperson, Lucy Kabiru said that social media and rumours being spread by union members that the Sacco is sinking contributed to some members withdrawing from the financial institution.
