The County Government of Kisumu has implemented a total of 33 water projects across 6 sub-counties, while 8 others were rehabilitated during the reporting period.

These projects, Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said, are located in Kisumu East (4), Kisumu West (5), and Muhoroni (5), Nyakach (8), Nyando and Kadibo (4), and Seme (7), and are completed and functional.

Other key projects undertaken during the financial year include the Onjweru Evacuation Center Water Project, which consists of a solar-powered borehole, a storage tank, and communal water points with the requisite pipeline extension.

The project currently has 5 individual connections. The Governor said the project is serving an estimated population of 1,000 people in Orongo village, including the evacuation center, and has the potential to reach 2,000 people through pipeline extensions and additional individual connections.

The Kopere Water Project, located in Nyando Sub-County, Governor Nyong’o said, is being implemented by the County Government in collaboration with SWAP. The project is powered by a solar-driven pump, a water reservoir, and a reticulation system, currently serving 4 communal water points, including 3 portable water dispensing kiosks with water ATMs.

“The project is serving an estimated population of 3,000 people and nearby schools,” he added.
