Metkei Farmers to buy Sh20m milk processor

By Dennis Bett.

Metkei Farmers Co-operative Society, located in Elgeyo Marakwet County, plans to process milk delivered by farmers.
The Society which has received financial received support from the County Government to purchase a processing machine worth Sh20 million, will see its members benefit through better prices for their milk.
Speaking outside the Society’s offices in Metkei town, the Sacco Chairman, James Cheboi flanked by Governor Alex Tolgos and area MCA, Daniel Chirchir said that farmers were previously faced with the problem of fluctuating milk prices. But this challenge will now be in the past as soon as the milk processing plant begins production.
Cheboi said the Sacco has already identified potential markets outside the County for the processed milk through intense marketing efforts.
“This milk processing plant will package various milk products like yoghurt, sour and fresh milk among other products. We urge the local community to patronize these milk products so as to uplift this Society,” said Cheboi.
