President William Ruto yesterday inspected the almost complete Nandi County Dairy Cooperative Creameries (NCC) processing plant in Kabiyet.
The construction of the first farmer-owned milk processing plant in Mosop Subcounty was started in 2019 as a flagship project of Governor Stephen Sang’s administration.
The dream aims at empowering dairy farmers to transition from primary production to value addition and agroprocessing so as to double their income and realize more profits.
Once complete, the dairy facility will serve more than 100, 000 farmers in the region by processing 200, 000 litres of milk per day.
According to the president, dairy is a key value chain in the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and there are great plans ahead: plans to transform the sector and plans to cushion the farmers from exploitation witnessed in the past.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said the NCC will enhance milk production through value addition and marketing, as well as foster job creation for our youth.
The President was accompanied by his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Cooperatives and MSMEs CS Simon Chelugui, among other government officials.
