More than 50 officials from nine newly registered Saccos in Kwale County recently underwent training on financial management.
The two-day induction course was conducted by the Kwale County Government to enable them manage their Saccos in a more effective and efficient manner.
Kwale County Government Trade and Co-operatives Director, Mr. Nyamawih Charo urged sacco officials in the region to exercise a high degree of transparency, accountability, integrity and honesty.
He said the County Government will continue to support saccos in the area to enable them offer quality services to members and the general public.
“The County Government sets aside funds annually to conduct capacity building seminars for saccos in the region to enable them carry out their undertakings in a more effective way”, Charo explained.
The director ,however, said that poor governance and misappropriation of funds by top Sacco officials has led to the collapse of many Saccos in the county.
Mr. Charo asked the Sacco’s Board of Directors to work as a team in order to achieve remarkable developments in their respective co-operative societies.
He advised members in the county to patronise their saccos.
The director said that the County Government will set aside a revolving fund which would enable saccos to boost their activities.
Meanwhile, all Sacco members in the county have been urged to embrace LIPA na M-PESA services to enhance efficiency.
An official from Safaricom Limited in charge of South Coast region, Mr. Kelvin Songa said that the LIPA na M_PESA service eases cash transactions.
“The LIPA na M_PESA services is free of charge”, he told the Sacco officials who attended the two-day induction course.
