Chogoria Ward Member of County Assembly, Margaret Gitari has called on co-operative societies in the region to add value to the farmers’ produce.
She said the societies should be a bridge between the farmers and the consumers.
Speaking during the launch of Ndosha Light Industrial Park supported by Ndosha Sacco at Wiru Location, Gitari said value addition was in line with Tharaka Nithi County’s plan of transforming the economy in the area. The park is about two kilometres from Chogoria town. She lauded the Sacco for the project that will see maize and milk processed before it is released to the market.
“I thank the Chairman, the board, staff and the members of Ndosha Sacco for coming together and agreeing to have a sister investment which will help the farmers. This will earn good profit to the producer,” Gitari said.
The MCA asked other societies to emulate Ndosha and help the county realize its dream of becoming a value addition region.
She asked Governor Muthomi Njuki and area leaders to help the Sacco grow the project.
“To our Governor, Tharaka Nithi will never be the same again, we now have maize millers among others that you should visit and help them develop,” she said.
She called on those who have not joined the Sacco to do so and benefit from such projects.
Gitari promised to do everything possible to help the project and to market the products in the county.
