Siret Outgrowers Empowerment Company Ltd Chairman, Wilson Tuwei has asked the National Government
to support tea farmers to look for lucrative markets abroad. Saying Kenya produces the best quality tea, he noted that the country’s tea is not sprayed with pesticides unlike other countries where they spray tea bushes
with pesticides.
“If buyers from foreign countries would be informed that Kenyan tea is not sprayed with pesticides they will buy plenty of it. So the Government should come to our aid,” Tuwei said, adding that the Government should not tax factory machinery.
He decried falling tea prices in the world market. Tuwei said that he expects better prices in the new financial
year due to high demand in theworld market.
The company has more than 6,000 registered members who are mainly tea farmers.
