Universal Traders Sacco honours pledge as trader steers off in Probox grand prize

Universal Traders Sacco has awarded Agnes Kalondu Nzuki a Toyota Probox, the car she won from a Ksh2000 stake she deposited to enter the grand draw at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.

The elated lady from Mutituni/ Ngelani Ward in Machakos County could not believe her luck.

She was among the numerous winners who walked away with hefty prizes, including four motorbikes and four laptops.

When Sacco chairman Fredrick Ngumbi called to inform her of the win, Nzuki, who is a small trader at Machakos Market, was ecstatic with joy.

“I was at my shop… I screamed … my customers thought there was something wrong. I quickly took a motorbike to receive my gift, which will change my life forever,” the delighted Nzuki told Sacco Review.

The single mother said she has been in the garment business for 20 years and would like now to expand it.

The share drive was held in all Sacco branches; Tala, Wote, Kathiani, Mlolongo, Embu, Kitui and Machakos, raising millions in deposits as hundreds of new members came on board.

Members were required to refer non-members to deposit a minimum share capital of Ksh10,000 in addition to their own normal share deposits, which are non-withdrawable.

Other winners include Francis Kyalo, Daniel Ndolo  and  Alois Kioko (Machakos branch), and Ruth Nyagah  of Embu branch, who all won motorbikes.

Wilfred Sira and Muthiani Ndolo from Tala branch, and Francis Mutua from Machakos branch and John* of Embu branch won laptops.

The random tickets were picked by a delegate in the presence of betting control officers, Sacco officials, other delegates and members drawn from various branches.

Ngumbi congratulated the winners, saying the exercise was open and everyone was a winner as those who did not win a prize still had their deposits intact, unlike ordinary raffles where you lose staked money.

Sacco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dominic Mutunga said the purpose of the funds drive and education days was to empower members, build their capacity and remind them of the products on offer, which include savings, credit and digital services.
