Five Savings and Credit Cooperatives Societies within Juja Constituency will receive about Sh85, 000 per day through savings by youth enrolled in National Youth Service (NYS) projects.
The money saved by youth known as NYS cohorts will be remitted to youth saccos in the area. Of the Sh471 paid to a worker daily, Sh141 is deducted and retained by the Ministry of Devolution, which transfers the money to saccos formed by the youth.
Juja Constituency has about 500 NYS cohorts earning Sh471 per day.
“We want the youths to save so that in future they can use the cash to initiate income-generating activities for themselves,” said NYS Deputy Director General Gathirua Michuki.
