Youth urged to form groups to get Government funding

By John Majau

Tharaka-Nithi Deputy Governor Francis Kagwima has urged the youth in the area to form or join registered groups in order to benefit financially from the Government and donor funding.
He said only registered youth groups will benefit from donor, national and county governments funding. Speaking to leaders at Ntunyai market, Kagwima said the county government will give priority to youth projects to empower them economically.
“We will only deal with registered groups,” he said.
Kagwima directed the Environment, Culture and Social Services minister to allocate two hectares of public land in Tunyai market to registered youth groups to plant tree seedlings for sale.
The Deputy Governor said this will enable them earn an income to uplift their living standards instead of idling in market centres or engaging in crime, adding that the land was previously used for planting seedlings.
He called on all the youth to shun the culture of soliciting handouts but instead embrace hard work to be financially stable.
“Relying on politicians and other leaders for handouts will only waste your time. Learn to eat from your own sweat by engaging in farming and providing labour in the construction industries among others jobs,” said Kagwima.
