Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii has promised to increase the Cooperative fund through a hustler kitty, a move that echoes the national government’s bottom up economics.
He said this will ensure that many people who are in groups benefit.
“As a county, we have a standalone Cooperative ministry and my government will increase money allocated for the same. The money will also be channeled through the hustler fund to uplift those in the bottom of the economic pyramid,” said governor Bii.
The governor said he will revive collapsed cooperative societies by funding and appointing new managers.
He further called on residents to join Cooperatives to enable them access funding from both the county and national governments.
“Cooperatives will reduce inequality by empowering people economically and providing a chance for the less endowed to start businesses and gain access to services that would otherwise be beyond their reach,” said the governor.
Bii said he will reduce the levies boda boda operators charged by half to give meaning to their investments.
