Players in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) industry have been encouraged to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology while conducting audit exercises and ensuring conformity to governance compliance in the process.
Speaking during the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) conference hosted by ISACA Kenya Chapter and held at Sarova Imperial Hotel in Kisumu, Deputy Auditor General Isaac Kamau said that AI is fast taking root globally hence the need for ICT practitioners to stay in tandem with best practices.
“Technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is welcome to promote efficiency in service delivery. Adoption of AI is a necessity but we can do this within the set professional standards and code of ethics,” he said.
The Conference sought to sensitize stakeholders on strategic resilience, cyber security and compliance amid a fast-paced technology landscape. It called for building the capacity of tech professionals in the areas of governance, risk and compliance.
The President of ISACA Kenya Chapter, Mercy Omolo, noted that the training of experts in the sector was inevitable in order to enhance the country’s capacity to tackle emerging cyber security threats.
“This follows a sharp rise in the number of cyber-attacks, with Kenya ranking among the top three targeted countries in Africa. There is a need for more investment toward training and retooling of ICT professionals,” she said.
Omolo added that the organization has already rolled out programmes to up-skill and certify more than 1,700 members.
Head of Cyber Security at the National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee, David Njoga, noted that digitization and onboarding of government services online has introduced a vacuum that has exposed government agencies and the private sector to cyber-attacks.
“Already the government has put in place a raft of measures, including the regulation development to operationalize the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act (2019) to deal with the challenge,” he said.
Njoga said that the measures are expected to improve compliance with the law and guarantee a stable digital economy for the benefit of the country.
