Trans Nzoia government has proposed to allocate Ksh500 million to agricultural programmes that will support small scale farmers during the 2026/2027 financial year.
The funds will be channelled through the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock and Fisheries.
Governor George Natembeya said the investment is intended to help farmers increase food production. Trans Nzoia remains among Kenya’s leading food producing counties, playing a vital role in national food security.
“Majority of our farmers are small scale and as a county we always support them to access farm inputs and other activities geared at helping them produce adequate food,” Natembeya said.
The proposed budget allocates Ksh313 million to the Department of Agriculture and Irrigation to strengthen agricultural productivity across the county. The funding will support counterpart financing for the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Programme (NAVCDP), crop pest control initiatives, the distribution of certified crop seeds and fruit tree seedlings, as well as the establishment of an agricultural database system.
