Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has stressed the importance of reviving the county’s agricultural sector as part of her government’s effort to diversify the economy, aiming to boost food security, job creation and rural development in the region.
Wavinya said her aim was to improve farming, which she said would create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for youths and other residents, while also increasing internally generated revenue through agribusiness and allied services.

Speaking during a development tour on July 22 at Kwa Katiwa Earth Dam in Kithongoni Sub Location, Kangundo Sub-County, she said agriculture was an integral part of the county’s plan for sustainable economic growth and development.
“My government is transforming lives by creating new economic opportunities for local residents. Today, we stocked the dam with additional fish fingerlings to enhance fish production, strengthen aquaculture, and create more sustainable sources of food and income for the local community,” the county boss said.
The Governor said she would continue to support the farming activities already practised by residents growing and selling crops such as tomatoes, sukuma wiki, spinach, bananas, sugarcane and sweet potatoes, among others.
“As Governor, I will continue to support farmers by providing them with seeds, seedlings and planting vines. This is not just an investment in a water resource but the perfect foundation for realising my Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni agenda in Machakos,” she added.
