- Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule Muli wants boda boda saccos to diversify into matatu transport
- More than 2,000 motorbikes worth over Ksh360 million face growing competition
- The newly tarmacked Kangundo Mwala road could open new transport and farming opportunities
Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule Muli has urged 48 boda boda saccos in the constituency to diversify into public service vehicle (PSV) transport, warning that stiff competition could push riders out of business.
The MP spoke at Kilalani Primary School during the opening of a classroom built through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money. He said the newly tarmacked Kangundo to Mwala road offered a good opportunity for Saccos to expand beyond boda bodas.
According to the MP, the Saccos operate more than 2,000 motorbikes, a fleet he said was worth over Ksh 360 million. He advised members to consider selling some of the bikes and investing in matatus instead, arguing that fewer, larger vehicles could serve a wider region and ease competition on the roads.
“The over 2,000 motorbikes are worth more than Ksh 360 million. If we reduced the motorbikes and bought buses worth Ksh 10 million, that’s 20 buses which can move across the country,” said the MP.

He challenged Boda Boda operators to think beyond their current operations and explore ways of making more money. He also said the tarmacked road would benefit farmers, who could sell agricultural produce along the route or transport it to other markets.
The MP encouraged residents to pursue business ideas regardless of their education level. He said many of the world’s most successful people were not professors but ordinary people who thought differently.
