  • Homa Bay County has approved grants to agricultural Saccos to strengthen farmer organisations.
  • The county has cleared funding for Sustainable Land Management programmes and participation in a 14-county economic initiative.
  • Rodi Kopany Town is set to get a new land use plan to guide its urban development.

Homa Bay County will issue grants to agricultural Saccos and draw up a land use plan for Rodi Kopany Town, after the County Executive Committee (CEC) cleared both measures at its 50th meeting. Governor Gladys Wanga chaired the session at the county headquarters in Homa Bay Town, according to a press release dated November 3, 2026.

On agriculture and food security, the committee approved the grants to agricultural Saccos as part of efforts to build stronger farmer organisations. It also cleared the purchase of goods and services needed to run Sustainable Land Management programmes, which are meant to encourage better use of farmland.

The county will additionally take part in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Blue and Green Circular Economy Hubs initiative, which brings together 14 counties. County officials say these steps should raise farm productivity and widen economic opportunities along the agricultural value chain.

Turning to land administration and urban development, the committee adopted the report of the Lands, Housing, Physical and Urban Development Committee for Homa Bay Municipality. It then approved the preparation of a Local Physical and Land Use Development Plan for Rodi Kopany Town.

According to the county government, the interventions will improve spatial planning and guide the orderly growth of urban areas. They are also expected to support sustainable development as the towns expand.
