Kenyan farmers have been urged to come up with innovations which can help boosting their crop and livestock production.
Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Deputy Director General, Dr. Felister Makini said it is only through innovations that farmers can be able to overcome their day-to -day environmental challenges.
She said KALRO has discovered farming technologies which work well for the farmers to suit varied environmental challenges across the country.
Dr. Makini, who was speaking during a farmer’s innovation contest award function at the Siaya Agricultural Training Center, stated that the adoption of their technologies has faced a lot of challenges because farmers have certain circumstances that prevent the adoption of those technologies. KALRO Director General, Dr. Eliud Kireger who graced the occasion revealed they decided to come up with the Farmers’ innovation contests to educate farmers.
The ceremony saw farmer innovators awarded dairy cows, solar powered water pumps and incubators. The function was also attended by Siaya Deputy Governor, Dr. James Okumbe who lauded the farmers for their innovations and assured them of support from the County Government.
