Governor urges young farmers to join Co-ops

Farmers at Kesses sub-county,Uasin Gishu County, have been advised to join co-operatives for easy access to loans to pursue their dreams.
The county governor Jackson Mandago said societies will enable youth to engage in productive activities that will provide them with income and revenue to the county.
The County Agriculture Executive Samuel Yego said the county will deal with the sideshows hindering people from joining Saccos.
He said farming was a good venture for young people especially horticulture, tea and coffee farming as the market was readily available.
“Take horticulture, for example, its maturity doesn’t take much time when you compare with other crops and bearing in mind that people in Eldoret town like fruits,” he said during an inspection tour of Chesunet and Chebaiywo dips recently.
He pointed out that few people from Kesses compared to other sub-counties had joined co-operatives.
He said societies offered better services to farmers with vision to increase income.
Elsewhere, Samburu dairy farmers are enjoying high income.
The dairy farmers who are members of Samburu Dairy Cooperative are reaping great financial returns after the society secured them good market.
Julius Lalampaa, the society patron, called on residents to turn away from pastoralism and embrace farming technology.
He said dairy farming requires small space as opposed to pastoralism.
The society recently received a 3,000 litre milk cooler from the National Government.
