Over 100 boda boda riders begin professional training in West Pokot

More than 100 Boda Boda riders have been enrolled for a driving course upon which they will graduate as professional riders after three months of continuous training at Mnagei Driving School in West Pokot County.

Speaking during the inauguration of the course, the West Pokot women representative, Hon Rael Aleutum, asked the drivers to work hard in class and master all the practical and theoretical skills so that they can pass their exams and qualify to become professional riders.

She added that a good number of drivers can only be relevant to the setting of West Pokot and other local areas and said that when they get to standard highways, they lose focus and could cause an accident because they failed to be attentive in class.

The women representative said that roads are in the category of the top ten highest killers in the world and are likely to be top three in 2030 according to statistics.

“It’s our collective duty to ensure that we have completely eradicated road acciddents’, she posed. She added that last year alone, over 1000 Kenyans died from motorcycle accidents while globally 1.2 million lives were cut short. Most riders have either had inferior training or lack requisite driving knowledge and experience. Effective training and being attentive in class can tremendously reduce accidents on our roads.
