Church launches Women Sacco

By Godfrey Wamalwa

Anglican Church of Kenya Katakwa Diocese Women Sacco became the 100th to be registered in Busia County following the partnership between the County Government and Busia Women representative Florence Mutua.
Mutua who presided over the launch in Amagoro recently pledged Sh500, 000 from the Affirmative Action Fund to help in kick-starting the sacco.
She urged the members to take advantage of the partnership between the County Government and the Affirmative Action Fund to empower themselves economically.
Mutua said Nambale ACK Diocese Women Group has made a bold step by starting a bakery that will be producing 450 loaves of bread per hour that is capable of supplying the entire county.
She also encouraged the 216 members to plough back into the society proceeds from 10 sewing machines donated through the Affirmative Action Fund and to start catering groups.
“Let us be transparent and accountable if the Sacco has to thrive,” she said.
The Sacco patron Grace Okude said they have Sh1.8 million in the account which they plan to use to build residential houses to help generate revenue for members.
Teso North Sub County Co-operative Officer Zebedee Lusimbo who represented Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong at the launch urged county residents to embrace saving culture which, he said, is not for salaried employees.
‘’Churches should not only focus on spiritual nourishment but adopt a holistic gospel approach where members also encouraged to venture into socio-economic activities,’’ he said.
