The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has announced that seeks to hire 2,000 youth in the agribusiness space through the Enable Youth Kenya programme.

In a memo seen by Sacco Review dated August 15, 2024, signed by the Principal Secretary (PS) for Agriculture Dr Kiprono Rono and addressed to the clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge, the PS revealed that the Ministry intends to recruit 2,000 Agripreneurs for incubation, training and credit access for the 2024/2025 financial year.

The PS revealed that the programme, supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the national government, aims to create business opportunities for the youth.

“The programme’s objective is to create business opportunities and employment for youth in agriculture through upgrading of youth agribusiness skills, enhanced adoption of innovative agricultural practices, and access to credit through the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC),” the memo reads in part.

PS Rono said that the implementation model is through incubation, training, mentorship, coaching and financing of successfully incubated youth.

For one to be eligible for the recruitment one has to be a youth aged 18 to 35 years, he/she must possess a secondary certificate/diploma/degree, and be interested in Agribusiness. Youth with running agribusiness ventures have an added advantage.
