Biashara Sacco is set to open its branch in Thika town.
Sacco chairman, Joseph Njamuku said Sacco that has nine branches in Mt Kenya region is set also to expand to other regions in future.
Other branches are in Nyeri, Embu and Laikipia counties.
“Membership has increased from 48,000 last year to 76,000 members this year. The loan portfolio rose from 585 million last year to Sh 800 million this year,” he added.
Njamuku was speaking at Nyeri ACK Cathedral Church in Nyeri town recently during the 6th thanksgiving service where the Sacco also donated Sh 400,000 worth of foodstuffs to 800 vulnerable children in the county ahead of Christmas season.
The chairman who was accompanied by Athi Water Services Board Chairman, Wachira Keen said the Sacco has been able to create jobs for about 150 permanent employees since inception a decade ago.
Keen lauded the recent remarks by President Uhuru Kenyatta that laws will soon be amended to ensure Saccos are empowered.
“This is the best move since the Saccos have helped many people to raise their standard of living by giving soft loans especially to traders,” He said.
He noted that Saccos have changed many lives even more than commercial banks.
The Board chairman also challenged Saccos to engage in national development projects for their own benefit.
