The Boresha Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) has called upon the Trans Nzoia County government officers to enhance their financial literacy and adopt prudent money management practices to secure their financial future.

Speaking during a one-day financial empowerment workshop for Public Service Management staff in Kitale, the Sacco’s Kitale Branch Manager, Daniel Toroitich, underscored the critical role of financial discipline in promoting stability among public servants.

Toroitich noted that a significant number of officers continue to face financial distress due to poor budgeting, overreliance on loans and lack of structured savings plans. He cautioned against borrowing from informal lenders, commonly known as shylocks, warning that high-interest loans often trap borrowers in cycles of debt.

“Clearing high-interest debts and embracing structured repayment plans will significantly reduce financial pressure and improve productivity at work,” he said.

The Sacco manager further advised officers to avoid impulsive spending and instead prioritise long-term financial goals. He encouraged them to build emergency funds to cushion themselves against unforeseen circumstances and to seek professional financial guidance before making major investment decisions.

During the forum, officers were also encouraged to uphold discipline and efficiency in service delivery, with Sacco officials noting that financial stability plays a key role in enhancing overall workplace performance.

The workshop forms part of Boresha Sacco’s broader outreach initiative aimed at strengthening financial management skills among public servants and fostering a culture of responsible borrowing and sustainable saving.
