Coffee farmers have called for the revival of Coffee Board of Kenya (CBK), accusing Agriculture Food Authority (AFA) of being ill-prepared to handle their concerns, as it only operated through the coffee directorate.
Speaking during a consultative meeting, Samuel Maina, coffee farmer said the assenting of the coming back of the CBK into law will help farmers by addressing their concerns that had been ignored for long.
“Through the CBK, farmers will be able to elect their own directors for the interest of the sector,” said Maina.
He added that the research and training will support the government agenda in increasing the coffee production, which has been a major concern.

The call comes after President William Ruto stripped the Agriculture Food Authority (AFA) of the role of regulating the coffee sector.
CBK will now oversee the licensing, registration of the coffee dealers, and promotion of the Kenyans coffee locally and internationally.
In the new dispensation, Coffee Research and Training will also replace the Coffee Research Institute, focusing on research of diseases, crop varieties, and production technology.
