- Coffee societies recorded a stronger financial return in the latest crop year

The Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) auctioned 770,034 bags of coffee in the year 2025/2026, which ended on September 30.
In the period between October 1 last year and September 30, Alliance Berries Limited topped the list of brokers after it marketed 222,329 bags, controlling 29 percent of the production, followed by New KPCU with 137,284 bags that garnered 18 percent control.
The 18 brokers who participated in the marketing sold 47 million kilograms of coffee that generated more than Ksh 41.63 billion ($321 million) for the farmers in the cooperative societies and estates.
The payment reflects an improvement over the previous year, when Ksh 35.6 billion was generated in the crop year 2024/2025 after trading 673,844 bags.
NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u, in her report, outlined that Alliance Berries Limited, a private firm, and New KPCU Kirinyaga Slopes jointly marketed 61 percent of the coffee that was traded at the auction.
“In the trading, four county growers cooperative unions that performed better are Meru, which marketed 21,786 bags that netted Ksh 23.8 million ($178,300), Mt Elgon 15,334 bags for Ksh 17.9 million ($138,100), and Murang’a 12,476 bags for Ksh 13.3 million ($103,000).

Other brokers that performed better in the coffee year were Kipkelion, 58,356 bags; CEBBA, which traded 40,789 bags; Minnesota, 30,405 bags, among others.
Coffee Board of Kenya Chairman Henry Kinyua appreciated the coffee growers for their dedication to producing quality coffee this year.
“We are expecting improved prices in the year 2026/2027, pleading with the farmers to follow the laid-down farming practices,” said Kinyua, also a coffee value chain expert.
