Eight out of 141 dormant cooperative societies in Taita Taveta county are set for revival, with four of them already revived.
They are Taita HPC, Taita Taveta Meat Goat, Taita Taveta Mgama and Maziwa Taita Dairy.
Speaking to Sacco Review in Wundanyi town recently, the county Cooperative Director Erastus Gonzi noted that the county has 242 registered cooperative societies with 98,996 members but only 101 are active.
Gonzi disclosed that the cooperatives have registered a turnover of Ksh557,039,620, share capital of Ksh241,370,385 and assets amounting to Ksh3.3 billion.
He noted that the cooperative movement has been recognized as a suitable vehicle to mobilize stakeholders and uplift their living standards.
Gonzi also said that through cooperatives, his department is committed to ensuring promotion and acceleration of urban and rural development, equitable distribution of incomes and creation of additional employment opportunities.
