There is a ray of hope of compensation for former employees of Nakumatt Supermarket after they were invited to a meeting with trustees and the liquidator to learn about how they will get their benefits.

According to a notice issued today, the supermarket asked their former employees who are yet to receive their pensions to prepare for meeting on August 30, 2024.

“Members of the above scheme who have not collected their benefits from the scheme are invited to meet the Trustees and the Liquidator at Mombasa Sports Club in Mombasa on August 29 and 30, 2024,” the notice reads in part.

The once dominant retailer collapsed a few years ago, rendering all its employees jobless and without retirement benefits. This is the first time since 2019 when the employees were dealt a huge blow after the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) announced that their pension scheme would be dissolved.

Nakumatt revealed that the meeting’s main purpose will be to discuss how the trustees can access benefits since the scheme is being closed on liquidation, urging that those on WhatsApp  to inform those who are not in the platform.
