The 100th International Day of Cooperatives was celebrated by Embu Saccos at Kangaru Girls Secondary School, with different Saccos being feted for their contribution for the growth of the movement.
Among the leaders who attended was Embu Deputy Governor David Kariuki, who is the immediate former Chief Executive Officer for Winas Sacco.
During the awards ceremony, Winas Sacco was announced the best deposit-taking Sacco with Front Office Service activities (FOSA).
On the other hand, Yoken Sacco was the overall best among non–deposit-taking Saccos without FOSA activities.
The best overall coffee Cooperative was Kibugu FCS, while Mburugu Dairy Cooperative was lauded as the best in management.
Neno Sacco Society was the overall best Sacco in the transport sector, with Mbeere Muguka Sacco taking home the best managed Sacco trophy.
Nawiri Sacco was the best on interest on deposits, recording the highest rates at 15 per cent.
Mediators Sacco had the highest deposit per member as Gachuriri Business Sacco pronounced the best Sacco in women and youth empowerment.
Kyeni South Huduma Sacco was the best youth Sacco.
Daima Sacco was declared the best Sacco in patronizing KUSCCO products.
KUSCCO extends loans for construction of homes for Sacco members and office buildings for Saccos. It also facilitates the purchase of residential houses.
During the event, speaker after speaker encouraged the public to trust the cooperative societies by saving.
Geoffrey Njang’ombe, who was the chief guest, lauded the Cooperatives management, saying it had facilitated their growth.
