Mining, Fisheries and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hassan Joho has announced that the government intends to streamline the mining sector.
Speaking in Kisumu when he met mining officials and artisan miners from Rift valley and Nyanza regions recently, the CS said that the government seeks to introduce reforms in bid to improve the sector.
“The government is keen to make certain reforms which include enhancing and reviewing the existing policies in order to improve the sector to ensure that we can reap big in the coming years,” he said.
Joho further affirmed that the government is also keen on safeguarding the safety of minors in the country to ensure that no one ends up losing their lives while at work.

He urged the private entities to partner with the government adding by doing so, the sector will grow significantly.
The CS said there have also been environmental concerns in the sector and the government will address them in time to ensure that no damage is done.
