Kakamega hawkers register Sacco to build financial base

Hawkers in Kakamega town have a reason to smile after acquiring a certificate of operation as a registered Sacco with the Ministry of Co-operatives.

Shieywe Ward Member of County Assembly Hon. Job Mwamto who spearheaded the registration handed over the certificate to the hawkers in the name of Kakamega Mali Mali Hawkers Sacco.

The MCA who is also the patron said the hawkers will now have authentic confidence to apply for tenders in the Kakamega County government and other places since they are duly registered.

“These Hawkers have been side-lined for many years, but now it is not going to be business as usual because with this kind of unity you have the strength to build a formidable financial base in this town and beyond,” he reiterated.

The MCA added that he will donate Sh200,000 into the Sacco in order for the Sacco to start operations and especially disbursing small loans to members.

Mwamto said he was going to present the Sacco issue to Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s office in order to fast track the process of  hawkers Sacco working with the county government of Kakamega and that he would provide a container where the Sacco will be carrying out its operations within the town.

Alfred Oyalo thanked the MCA saying that hawkers have suffered more in the hands of shylocks who take very high loan interests on their loans making it very difficult for them to improve their businesses.

Collins Andulu the Vice Chairman said now the sky was the limit and that they are now set on the right track to their financial success and urged more hawkers and other business people to join the Sacco
