Due to its nonpareil promotion for the growth of cooperative societies, Kenya has earned a global accolade for particularly welcoming close to one million members in a spun of one year.
In a virtual annual general meeting, World Council of Credit Unions (Woccu) delegates voted Kenya as an exceptional member that saw it bag the Member Growth Award.
The fete saw federation of cooperative societies in Kenya Kuscco Limited group managing director George Ototo returned as Woccu board member for a two year term.
While addressing the delegates, Ototo said that Saccos sustain livelihoods of more than 14 million Kenyans who have used the funds to educate their children, buy lands and boost businesses.
Korea through its National Credit Union Federation was also recognized for adding one million members approximately 19.8% increase to the present 6.1 million members.
