Western Kenya region is now destined for serious industrial take off following Kenya-European Union signed agreement to redevelop Gogo Hydro-Power Plant in Uriri, Migori County aiming to upscale power generation from 2MW to 8.6MW.
The agreement includes €35Million sovereign loan from German Government for Gogo regeneration and €20Million grant from European Union (for Gogo and other three renewable energy projects under the EU’s Green Resilient Electricity System Programme).
Treasury Cabinet secretary John Mbadi, EU ambassador to Kenya Henriette Geiger and German counterpart Sebastian Groth penned the agreement at the Treasury Building, Nairobi.

The project is expected to solve the rampant power outage along the Sugar belt region, stimulate economic growth and position the region as an investment hub.
The regeneration infrastructural work for the 64-years old Gogo HydroPower Plant scheduled to commence soon.
