Kisumu County is set to entered into international partnership with Yiyang City in Hunan Province, to accelerate the socio-economic and infrastructural growth.
Speaking when he hosted a high-level delegation from Yiyang City in Hunan Province, China, Governor Prof. Nyong’o said the visit signaled a major step toward long-term collaboration in key sectors critical to Kisumu’s sustainable urban development.
“The delegation presents a prime potential partner in urban development, waste and sewerage treatment, affordable housing and security surveillance projects,” said the governor. “Our goal remains to ensure that Kisumu continues to attract impactful investments that directly benefit our people,” he added.
The visiting team, led by Tian Yinjie, Deputy Director at Yiyang’s Municipal Bureau of Commerce, comprised senior government officials and business leaders from Yiyang’s municipal administration and state-owned enterprises.

Their mission was to explore areas of cooperation with the county government, particularly in affordable housing, waste and sewage management and urban safety systems.
The discussions centred on sharing technical expertise, adopting innovative waste management solutions, and developing affordable housing models for ongoing projects such as Anderson and Makaembo.
Prof. Nyong’o cited the success of similar partnerships, such as the KEDA Ceramics International factory in Miwani, which he said had created hundreds of jobs and opened new avenues for trade and enterprise.
“This visit lays a strong foundation for knowledge exchange and long-term investment in Kisumu’s growth agenda,” he added.
Also present during the meeting were the governor’s spouse Dorothy Nyong’o, County Secretary Hesbon Hongo, County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) George Okong’o (Finance), Judith Oluoch (Water and Environment), Dr. Charles Konyango (Lands and Urban Development), City Manager Abala Wanga, and County Attorney Otieno Aluoka.
