Roads, Transport and Public Works Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has termed Lake Victoria and its ecosystem as a sleeping giant with the potential to boost the region’s economy and the Western Kenya tourism circuits if fully utilized.
Murkomen was speaking at the Kisumu Port where he launched the Standards of Training Certification and Watching for Seafarers’ courses after witnessing the graduation of 12 graduates from the Marine Training College in Kisumu.
He urged more youth to enroll for Marine-related courses, saying that the Port will increase employment opportunities.
The CS also presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kenya Utalii College and the Kenya Railways.
Also present were the County Deputy Governor Dr. Matthew Owili, Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, Kenya Utalii College Chairman David Omusotsi and Kenya Railways Training Institute Director Milly Otieno.
