Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has urged Saccos to embrace new technology to attract youths to save with them.

Speaking to the press in Eldoret town recently Mandago said technology will enable Saccos diversify services and raise youth enrolment in the Saccos which is perceived to be for the old.

“Saccos need to embrace technology to bring the youthful generations on board who have shied away from joining,” he said.

Mandago noted that it is only through the cooperative movement that the Government has taken money circulation to the lowest level of our community.

He said small scale farmers and traders in the County have accessed cheap loans and market their products through cooperative societies noting that the sector has a capacity and ability to be a vehicle of wealth distribution

“We must embrace technology and be careful that we deploy the best technology that will not attract loses or prone to cyberattacks,” said Mandago.

The department of cooperative has so far extended loans worth Sh 400 million to 135 co-operative societies in the county.
