Workers on the Chesumei Affordable Housing Project in Nandi County have downed their tools and blocked part of the Namgoi–Kapsabet Road, protesting prolonged delays in the payment of their wages.
Several workers who spoke during the protest said the delayed payments had left them struggling to meet daily needs and support their families, with some citing mounting rent arrears and other debts. They called on those responsible for the project to honour their obligations and settle outstanding wages without further delay.
Despite the payment challenges, workers said they had continued reporting to site and performing their duties for weeks, hoping the matter would be resolved. They appealed to both the government and the company overseeing the project to intervene urgently.

The protesters argued that, because the project is being implemented using public resources, workers should not be forced to endure financial hardship while carrying it out. They have demanded that all outstanding wages be paid immediately, warning that they will not resume work until the matter is addressed.
They have further called on the government to investigate the cause of the delay and to ensure workers’ rights are safeguarded across public-funded developments, including the wider Affordable Housing Programme.
