- Ojienda takes charge of the Senate agriculture committee
- New chair outlines focus on agriculture sector matters
- Wakoli exits after taking up Majority Party Whip role
Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda (Kisumu) has been unanimously elected Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
Upon accepting the position, he thanked Members of the Committee for the confidence they had placed in him. He then pointed to the weight of the sector, noting that agriculture touches the lives of nearly every Kenyan household. For that reason, he said, the Committee’s work must remain guided by its importance to the country.
Looking ahead, Sen. Ojienda said he looked forward to working with Members of the Committee and stakeholders in the agricultural sector as the Committee undertakes its mandate on behalf of the Senate and the people of Kenya. He also pledged to give his best in the new role and to serve with commitment as the Committee continues to address matters affecting agriculture, livestock and fisheries across the country.
Sen. Ojienda takes over from Sen. David Wafula Wakoli (Bungoma), who resigned from the position after his appointment as Majority Party Whip.
