Over 10 CBOs receive donations from county govt to boost income

Over ten Community Based Organizations and hundreds of individuals across Machakos County have received direct capital injection courtesy of the county government  in form of car wash machines, seats and tents for hire, parasols and climate smart cooking jikos among other items.

The items were issued by Finance and Economic Planning County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Onesmus Kuyu and his counterpart Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Welfare CECM John Kilonzo in Masinga and Athi-river Sub-Counties respectively.

Speaking in Ndithini, Masinga Sub-County recently,Finance CECM  Kuyu said the direct capital injection was in line with Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s clarion call of ‘Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni’ which is a socio-economic empowerment policy aimed at ensuring food sufficiency and improved income to households across the county.

He explained that the beneficiaries will save funds which would otherwise have gone into purchase of the assets.

“This is a direct capital injection to Wananchi. It helps to create jobs as well as enable them save funds that would have been used to purchase the items and is in line with the Governor’s clarion call of Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,” said Kuyu.

The empowerment initiative compliments the proposed Wikwatyo Fund and the Machakos Youth Service which are in the process of being approved by the County Assembly.

At the same time, Youth CECM Kilonzo urged the youth to register their groups so as to benefit from the government’s tenders and other opportunities.

Daniel Musyoka, the Chairman of Muri Farm Youth Group in Ndithini which was one of the beneficiaries said the car wash machine would help the group to generate income and keep the members busy thus avoiding destructive habits.
